WOYWW 581

Another week and ‘normality’ seems to be returning. Kevin and I went out on Sunday and there were lots of people about. Haven’t seen so many for months! The cable cars were running and the pier was very busy. Lots of people walking on the Great Orme and around it on Marine Drive. Our friends, Ian & Ali, popped over on Friday and we went and had coffee & cake at one of the (many) cafes in town. It’s great now that they’re only 40 miles away instead of around 300.

I have had a play with one piece of the slate. I was going to use a white chalk pen but couldn’t find the one I knew I had so used a porcelain brush pen in red instead. I bought a white chalk pen on Friday and, of course, have now found my original one! I need to go through the slate and clean it all up before I do any more. I’ve ordered some white carbon paper to help with transferring text. Here’s my first effort:

On Saturday I finally got around to making my sun hat:

I’ve never made a hat before and, to be quite honest, I don’t think I’ll ever make one again! Still, I’m pleased with it and wore it on Sunday when we went out. It’s fully reversible but this is the way I’ll be wearing it. I’ve been given some fabric from someone who lives locally via someone at church. I think Margaret Wright (glitterandglue) has also had some. Hopefully I shall get a chance to go myself. The best bit of fabric was this:

And there’s enough to make 6 cushion covers. I just need to get some fabric for the backs. There were also a few bits of ribbon. This one took me right back!

Doesn’t that just scream ‘1970s’ at you? For some reason it reminds me of when I was a Brownie. I’m sure I had a dress in the same colours in the 60’s as well. And, my 2nd primary school and my secondary school uniforms were both brown with a brown/orange tie.

Time is going fast, I must skidaddle! I’m hosting a Zoom meeting in 20 minutes. Hwyl fawr am y tro!

  4. oo your hat is lovely – what fun fabric. Yes the 70’s is the first thing I thought of when I saw the tape – my little sis had a dress with a similar pattern. Have a great week. Soojay#14

  5. Hi Camilla, I love that hat, the fabrics are just perfect – I can see it must have been fiddly to make though. What lovely fabric to play with and yes I also had a jolt of memory when I saw that braid, I wonder what you will do with it? It would be lovely on a bag or something. Happy WOYWW-day 🙂 Annie C #17

  6. So love the hat, it’s great and reversible too, perfect. The patterned binding could easily be from the sixties or early seventies as it reminds me of the “Flower Power” movement. I think I may well have some of that hanging around in the loft. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x11x

  7. Hi Camilla. It was lovely to see you and natter the other day. Trust the sun didn’t get to your head too badly!! The hat is great – well done – I have never made a hat either, they always looked a bit complex! That fabric is gorgeous – enjoy making the cushion covers. Hope the church council went ok and you all got loads sorted.
    Take care. God bless.
