Still nothing to show on my desk; I’m still painting! I’m using a slightly different paint as I couldn’t source the one I used previously and this one needs 16-24 hours between coats rather than the 6 hours of the old one. It’s also a bit stinky! It’s supposed to be low odour, but it’s not as low odour as the old one, but not bad enough to give me a migraine, thankfully.

Having finished the porch, the bit that took the longest was putting things back where they were. I have a small bookcase just inside the hall with my collection of old Bibles and Books of Common Prayer. I’ve had them all out and dusted them (doesn’t happen very often). I’ve decided that I shall only keep a few of them that mean something to me and take the rest to our local Christian Bookshop’s second-hand section. I also have another small shelving unit with my collection of Eeyore mugs, that also houses the broadband router.

Bookcase and stuff.

The small picture on the unit is of Llandudno Pier in the snow, taken in 2010 I think. I saw this picture for sale in one of the shops on the pier and when Kevin’s brother and sister-in-law came to visit, they bought it for us. I love it because you don’t necessarily think of snow and piers together!

Snowy Llandudno Pier.

The picture hanging above is of Llandudno’s North Shore. I bought it for £4 from a charity shop (aah, those were the days!). When I got it home I realised that I know the artist! Her name’s Jean Morgan now but this was painted around 1998 when she was Jean Roberts. She sells her paintings at Bodnant Gardens and they generally go for about £300 a piece. We used to sing in a Welsh Learners’ choir together.

The opposite wall above the radiator has other local pictures and maps.

Local pictures and postcards.

The large pictures from the left are: Commemorative picture from the 1989 Eisteddfod, which was held in Conwy, Saxton’s map of Gwynnedd and Ynys Mon (Anglesey), and John Speede’s map of Wales. I love John Speede’s maps and have one of Sussex (where our son was born) and one of Northamptonshire (where hubby was born). I just need one of Bedfordshire (where our daughter was born) and one of Gloucestershire (where I was born) to complete the set. Although I could also go for Bristol (when it was a county in its own right), Somerset, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Middlesex, which are all counties that I’ve lived in. The tall frame with 4 pictures are all old postcards of Llandudno, the two either side of that are old newspaper adverts for the Orme, and the Pier. The other 4 are very old pictures of Conwy and Llandudno.

At the bottom of the stairs is a picture of a ship called St Tudno:

And on the wall by my craft room are an old poster advertising the Colwyn Bay and Liverpool Steamship Company, and a lovely little print depicting scenes on the Menai Straits.

The wallpaper, for those of you that are interested, is not just Anaglypta, it’s a Superglypta paper designed in 1938 and called Aztec. It’s now only made occasionally as a special edition and costs about £20 per roll. I bought a couple of rolls to fill in places where it had been removed when we had to have the wiring done when we moved in. It’s painted in Dulux Pearl Grey. I reckon it’s been here since at least the 1950’s. I’ve had visits from the family that lived here in the 60’s and it was here when they arrived. They couldn’t believe it was still here!

Well, considering that I didn’t think I’d got anything to talk about, I’ve managed to ramble on for ages! I think that’ll do for now. Maybe I’ll start doing a virtual tour and do the two guest bedrooms on another occasion. Hwyl fawr am y tro!

  1. I enjoyed the stroll around your art gallery – the photo of the snowy pier is really great, as you say, it’s unusual for seaside places to get that much of the white stuff!
    Hugs LLJ 6 xx

  2. Hi Camilla. It was good to see you this morning. Went into the craft shop after seeing you. Oooo… lots of yummy yarn colours!!! Your hall looks fantastic – well done! An enormous amount of work there.
Come have a panad sometime when you have the car.
Take care. See you soon hopefully. God bless.

  3. Your hall is looking stunning, Camilla, and what an art gallery it is! I loved seeing all your gorgeous pictures, and particularly liked the pier in the snow – as you say, an unusual combination. I also love your Eeyore mugs! I’ve never seen those before and wouldn’t have thought of collecting them! I have always loved Winnie the Pooh. I am intrigued by your collection of Prayer Books and Bibles too – I am sure there is a story behind that. I have got some of those blue glass seashells somewhere – they used to be in a dish in our seaside-themed bathroom in our old house, but I am not sure where they have got to since we moved.

Thank you for your lovely comment and I’m glad you enjoyed seeing me modelling my clothes lol! I am very happy indeed to have finished that long-standing UFO and if it wasn’t for Julia’s challenge, I think it would have remained in the box for another 25 years! Ah, Glastonbury… I’ve never been to the festival, although I have visited the town a couple of times. One day…

    Happy WOYWW,

  4. I absolutely love the pier pic, it’s brilliant, lucky you to find that. Great walk around the other art work too. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x20x

  5. Loved all the pictures of Llandudno – always a favourite place, especially in the years when the kids were small and we lived in Moelfre on Anglesey.
We have sailed in the annual Menai Straits Regattas for many years. This is the first year it has been cancelled for a very long time – since the war? Although we wouldn’t have been able to do it this year having moved to Aus, my brother would have been there!

  6. I love Llandudno too, a favourite place to visit. Love seeing the snow on the pier, very unusual to see snow so close to that salty air there must have been a heavy fall for it to stay and settle. Redecorating I find great therapy, i’ve painted so many areas since March but i’ve stopped now, got to leave a little bit for Autumn days!! Happy WoywW & thanks for sharing Tracey #8

  7. How cool to get a virtual tour and so interesting to see what’s on your walls, Camilla. My parents have one of those maps of Staffordshire (where we were all born). Cool charity shop find! The wallpaper looks amazing and I am not surprised that you don’t want to remove it. Stay safe and happy belated WOYWW. Sarah #2
