Nothing on my workdesk this week – I’ve been decorating. I did a lot of decorating last year – 3 bedrooms, my craft room, 1 en suite, 1 downstairs loo, the hall, stairs, and landing, all the skirting boards, architraves, picture rails and banisters (oh, how I hate painting banisters!), and 4 doors. I decided to stop at the porch as I was cream crackered. Now I have done the porch!

The hall side of the porch. The handles still need to be put back.

It’s now a lovely, bright white instead of the off-white/cream it’s been since we moved in. I’ve painted both sides of the left-hand section and the big door (but only this side of the coat cupboard door as no-one else sees the inside but us). In the actual porch I also painted the skirting board and picture rail. They’d got a bit bashed when the new front door and double-glazing was fitted last year so there was some filling to do as well. My knees certainly didn’t like me doing the skirting board! I’m going to refresh the paint on the porch walls tomorrow. I’ve realised that I’m not as young as I was. I have 3 more doors to do but have decided that after that I’m not doing it again. The last 3 rooms that need decorating are the lounge, the dining room, and our bedroom. I am going to get someone in for those. I have the colours all sorted but I need to earn some money before it happens.

That’s me for this week – I’m having a couple of days’ break before finishing those 3 doors. Hwyl fawr am y tro!

  1. Well done for doing as much as you have especially the skirting boards. Once finished you will be able to sit back and admire a job well done.

  2. Morning Camilla. Phew!!! And I thought I had done well managing the front hall and the upstairs shower room. My efforts pale into insignificance compared to your sterling effort! Well done a thousand times over.
And you did all the fancy sorting for the church prayer rota… and the church council minutes and meetings… plus sewing for the NHS… plus??? Anything else I have forgotten about?!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  4. We’ve just had our bedroom done and then we just have the hall, stairs and landing left to do of our total renovation. Someone else is going to have to do that bit too! Nothing like a fresh lick of paint is there?! Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #14

  5. Hi Camilla, well done for getting stuck in, trouble is we tend to do far too much in one go, then pay for it the next day! Stay Safe, Have a lovely week,Hugs, Shaz #5 X

  9. Sometimes Crafting just has to wait when there are other jobs to be done. Bet you’re pleased you’ve finished it. Wishing you a happy week and a creative woyww, Angela x19x

  10. Hi Camilla, sorry for the late visit. Goodness me, that is a long list of decorating you have done! Up until 3 years ago, I always did all my own decorating. I can’t manage big jobs anymore- small painting, or a bit of wallpaper is ok, but I get a decorator in for anything else. He did a great job on our hall, stairs and landing. I want our lounge decorating in the autumn – but unbeknownst to Mr M, I also want an extension building, so no point doing the lounge until that is built – if I ever save up enough money to do it! Good luck with the remaining doors – you will feel wonderful when it’s all finished I’m sure. Have a lovely week and stay safe and well, Heather xx #4

  11. I don’t blame you for deciding to get someone in to decorate the remaining rooms Camilla, it is a massive job. What you have done looks good, hope the knees recover soon. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

  12. Well done. How I hate gloss painting. Especially the prep. tedious. And I think getting someone in to do the other rooms is a jolly good idea..helps the local economy, what!!

  13. Well done with the decorating. We turned our sitting room from cream to white and it’s much brighter as a result. Being a north-facing room with the houses across the street being on a higher level, very little light comes in, but the orange accents bring a bit of fake sunshine in! We have got glass panels and a glass door like yours between our hall and porch too, on a larger scale. What I would really love to do is replace the glass (dimpled frosted glass and not original) with Edwardian-style stained glass but I think it would probably break the bank to do it!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
