WOYWW 576

Urgh! My head is full of mush this morning. We were woken at some obscene hour by workmen doing some road mending right outside our house. I’d just managed to nod off and then the Police were at the door! Apparently there’d been a break-in down the road during the night. She was a bit vague about where ‘down the road’ was. There are only 6 houses on our road but we merge into another road at the corner and there’s a cul-de-sac just on the bend too, as well as another small, one-way road that exits into ours. So, anything up to about 100 properties in all. Anyway, whilst I try to de-fog my brain, here’s what I’ve been up to this week. I haven’t done much. I made a slightly larger version of the bag I made the other week to use as a handbag.

My summer handbag.

I made the straps longer so I could put it over my shoulder and put some pockets inside for small items. Of course, I got so carried away making it that I’d forgotten I wanted internal pockets until I’d finished the whole thing! I managed to, very carefully, unpick the bottom of the lining and sew the pockets on even more carefully.

I’ve bought myself a new toy from Aldi this week – a woodburning kit. I’ve often fancied the idea and at £7.99 I could hardly refuse!

New woodburning kit.

I haven’t had a play with it yet, though. At the same time I bought the Aldi Die Cutting Tool Kit – has anyone else bought one of those? If so, then perhaps you can tell me what the other end of the Pokey Tool is for! It doesn’t mention the ‘other’ end on the list at the back and I can’t for the life of me work out what it’s for. It’s got a sort of slit in the top. I can’t get a good pic, I’m afraid, otherwise I’d have put it up here.

Some good news I had yesterday is that our friends from Sussex, Ian & Ali, are going to be allowed to move into their new house in Goldarnbenmaen this coming weekend – hooray! They’re the ones who managed to get married just before the Register Office shut for lockdown. They’d sold their property and are living with Ali’s parents at the moment. I’ve still got their wedding card and present waiting for them on the mantelpiece in the dining room! (I didn’t want to post it in case it got damaged and I didn’t want to add to the stuff they need to be bringing with them) I’ve now made a ‘new home’ card for them but sealed the envelope before photographing it but have a spare photo of it. I’m also making some personalised fridge magnets from old bottle tops.

It’s a bit blurry – sorry. Inside the card it says, “A lick of paint and some new curtains; it’ll be fine!”

Bottle top magnets.

I’ve had to space them out as the magnets are so strong they keep trying to stick to each other! If you think the ‘I’ looks upside down, you may be right. I can’t work out which is the right way up! I’m going to make a box to put them in with a piece of card inside with a magnetic strip underneath.

Well, that’s me for now. I think I may actually need a cup of coffee – and those of you that know me will know that I don’t drink coffee! Hwyl fawr am y tro!

  1. Hope you’re feeling a bit more with it soon Camilla. I hate being woken from a deep sleep. Good news about your friends and their new house. I will have to ask hubby to look out for that wood burning kit next time he’s in Aldi as he does the shopping. Thanks for the heads up. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #8.

  2. Morning Camilla. Quite a day already, isn’t it? Maybe coffee will work – just this once… I hope all is well, and the police didn’t find anything or anyone lurking in your garden! I confess I had never thought of your street as a major crime scene!
That bag is just lovely – well done. And congrats on undoing, fitting pockets, and doing up again!!! I just love that new home card!!! Hope your friends really enjoy living in the Homeland.
Take care of yourselves. Love to you both. God bless.

  3. That card made me hoot!! Just the sort of thing that I’d buy (or make) for friends too. In fact, I may have to steal your idea! I’m so pleased that your friends are finally able to move, it’s been a funny and frustrating time. Love your summer handbag, so pretty and your sewing is so neat – I have forgotten to put in pockets before now and had to do much the same as you, so you’re not on your own!

  4. Hate days when I’m in a fog – usually end up wishing I’d just stayed in bed!! Lots of good projects there – had to LOL at the broken down house! I’m not sure I could be trusted with a wood burning tool (although I am wondering if I don’t have one somewhere that my hubby bought me years ago when he trusted me).
Happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, hugs Cindy #12

  5. Your handbag is so pretty and just perfect for summer days. I love the photo you used for your friends card – it really made me laugh. Hope the burglars get caught, what a horrible experience for you.
    Have a good week

  6. Glad to hear your friends are finally able to move and will receive their wedding gift and new home card too – that’s really clever! I hope you don’t get another disturbed night tonight, that is so annoying! Helen #2

  7. What a sweet little bag?! Such pretty fabrics too. I’ve managed to go through 3 sewing machines in the first week of lockdown – I’m not a natural sew-er, which is probably a good thing really or I’d be buying fabric the way I purchase patterned paper!! I hope your friends’ move goes well. Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #23

  8. Hi Camilla, that was a great bargain at Aldi! Those sort of kits were being sold for a LOT more than that at the last NEC show I went to. Love the picture and the words for the new home card. Fabulous idea, so funny. Love the bag, how annoying it is when you realise you’ve missed an important step in a project, but good that you were able to fix it. Stay safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #16 X

  9. I hate the fog of not sleeping well or being woken up too early. I am not able to sleep much at the moment and always feel in a permanent daze. I love the bag – so pretty and so useful. Happy Belated WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#34)

  10. I hate waking up to a lot of noise! Your bag is lovely and I like the magnets. Is there a right way up for the “I”? Happy belated WOYWW Angela #38

  11. Beautiful bag and look forward to seeing how you use the new wood burning tool. We’ve had a busy week with my mum and I’d had enough yesterday so I’m finishing off my visits today. Have a great week and a happy belated woyww, Angela x20x

  12. Sorry I’m late. That was a rude awakening, did you manage a nap or an early night? I confess that I’m always a bit resentful in those situations, I mean the least they could do is warn you a couple of days in advance! V pleased for your friends, and laughed at the photo and your caption for it! Horrors! No idea about the pokey tool…is it an eye type of slit or a slit that opens at the end of the tool? If it’s open, it may be intended to double as a quilling tool? The pyrography tool looks good for the money, report back about how well you do with it won’t you you! Love your cheery handbag….please get the wall to wall sunshine back for it…this week has been wet and dull and I am so grateful that all of Lockdown hasn’t been like this, I would not have coped!

  13. Sorry you had such a bad sleep and such a rude awakening! Waking up brainfogged is the norm for me and it takes me a while to get going, and I never sleep much anyway, but if you are used to a good healthy 8 hours, that sort of thing is hard! Hope you managed to catch up later. I love your new bag! Really summery and pretty, and well done, managing to add internal pockets afterwards, which must have been quite difficult. Your house moving card and sentiment made me laugh out loud! Brilliant! What a photo! The bottle top fridge magnets are most unusual and fun. Well done!

Sorry for the late visit. Time seems to have escaped me somewhat this week!
    Happy belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi x #22
