Well, this sparked some interest last week! I mentioned that I make cards using Scrabble tiles and quite a few of you wanted to see one; so here it is!

I’ve not actually stuck this down yet as I get all the church members and regulars to sign the card first and then fix the front on. I print the number and the text leaving a gap for the tiles. I use 3mm double-sided tape to stick the letters to each other, then a wider one across the back. I tend to get the cards made well in advance as it can take ages to get them signed by everyone. I’ve already made three like this to take me up to July. This particular card is for August and there are another two: one for September and one for November. They’re 8″x 8″. I’ve made all the other ‘ordinary’ birthday cards up until the end of December – 70 cards in all. The ‘ordinary’ cards are A6 and just get signed by the church Elders.

We’ve had an interesting weekend as I noticed our boiler was leaking on Friday so called British Gas out. Unfortunately, we had to wait until Saturday for the engineer. The engineer then proceeded to shut off the boiler as we had a gas leak as well. Great! We had friends visiting for the weekend so we broke out the electric heaters and lit the fire in the lounge. Thankfully, we have electric showers too. The gas leak was fixed on Monday and the water leak yesterday. We had double-glazing fitted last April and it has made all the difference.

Our friends are from West Sussex and are getting married in April and then they’ll be moving up to live near us in Snowdonia. They took us to see the house they’re buying – it’s a converted chapel (Capel Saron) with a detached, converted, school house in the garden (two for the price of one!) They’re both musicians and will probably use the school house as a recording studio.

Last week for our Valentine’s treat, hubby and I went to see Fisherman’s Friends at our local theatre in Llandudno. They are amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and sang along to most of their songs, even though we’d both got sore throats (!!). We still had enough of a voice to sing in the Worship Group at church on Sunday but we’ve both decided to have a rest from our Welsh choir this week to recover properly. Hwyl fawr!

  1. Hi Camilla, fab card, love the design. Reminds me I have a bag of scrabble like tiles somewhere, must find that out. I used to make large cards for special birthdays/ weddings/ births etc when I was at work, and I agree you need plenty of time for getting everyone to sign! Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 X

  2. That is a genius card, I absolutely love the idea – and perfect for male or female too!! How lovely that your friends are moving up, a bit different from Sussex but far far better 🙂

  3. Love your scrabble card, that’s genius. It sounds like you’ve been having fun and games. Boilers never break when it’s convenient do they. I hope you are soon sorted.
I love Fisherman’s Friends. We thoroughly enjoyed their film last year.

  4. the card is great fun – and the opportunities are endless! Sorry that you had such a trial at the weekend with the gas and the water, glad it is sorted now. Good job you had alternative means of heating and washing! Helen #1
